Description: Medium size newt, usually up to 16 cm, and green back. The females present a yellow, orange or red vertebral line, while in the males, the vertebral line transforms into a crest with light dark vertical stripes during the reproduction season. The body is round or slightly plane. The tail is laterally flattened. The limbs are well developed, with four long fingers in the front paws and five in the hind.

Habitat: Near stagnant water or with little stream.
