Description: Monoic tree with broad crown. The rhytidoma is smooth and has a gray-brown color until the age of 15-20 years, becoming then dark brown and with often oblique longitudinal cracks. The leaves are deciduous, oblong-lanceolate, dark green on the upper page and light green on the lower. The mantillas are long and straight, the androgynous superiors and the inferior men. The fruit is a chestnut and is found in groups of 2-3, inside a hedgehog.


Habitat: Forest and deciduous forests, usually in mountainous or cool regions.
