S7: “The Power of the Wind Power”

Summary: Nowadays, the wind power is considered one of the most important natural sources of energy for being renewable, and it has been used since ancient times. Currently it is used, among others, for the electric power supply, making a significant contribution to reducing the environmental impact and the sustainable development. This field trip will guide you through the Serra da Freita Wind Farm, and will help you to understand the transformation of the wind power into electric power. It also includes the visit to the geosite of Detrelo da Malhada Panoramic, from where you’ll have a privileged view over the Arouca town.

Notes: The visit to the control station of the Wind Farm is made in groups of 20, in partnership with the Iberwind SA company. As an alternative to the pedestrian trail through the Serra da Freita Wind Farm, it is possible to visit the panoramic floor of the Arouca Weather Radar – Costa da Castanheira Panoramic (G10).
