S8: “The tungsten: memories of the war period”

2023/2024 | Saídas de Campo no Arouca Geopark

Summary: Formerly considered a small town, the Regoufe village has the Mining Complex of Poça da Cadela where, in the World War II, the English have settled with the intent to explore and then trade and export tungsten, that was called the “black gold” of that time. Nowadays, it is possible to observe the remains of the technical, administrative and residential facilities, as well as the mine entrances and heaps that help us to reconstruct the history of the region. The field trip includes a presentation of the general framework in the “O Mineiro” restaurant.
