Biodiversity

Life develops in different scales, such as the passing of time and all the Universe organization. The mountains, valleys, rivers and woods of the Arouca Geopark are very rich habitats, hosting species that live in a free, independent and autonomous way, that appear before us in all their splendor. Thus, we should be ready to observe, meet and respect them and their space. Meet and disclose, as well as preserve, are the key words in what concerns to the Arouca Geopark biodiversity, which goes through a vast area protected by the Natura 2000 network, an ecological network created to the European Union community area, as a result of the application of the Birds Directive and the Habitat Directive. This network represents 47% of the Arouca Geopark area, distributed by the three Sites of Community Interest: Freita and Arada Mountains Site (34%), Paiva River Site (10%) and Montemuro Mountain Site (3%).

Welcome to a real universe inside the Arouca Geopark.
