História Boroas & Company
Pumpkin boroa is produced in a small, local, family-run business which, since 2011, has been dedicated to the valorization and processing of local products, which, in addition to pumpkin, currently also includes chestnuts and walnuts. Based on a family recipe and the abundant production of pumpkins in the small village of Souto Redondo, located on the northern slopes of Serra da Freita, Vítor Fernandes and his family created sweet boroas, an innovative product.
The success achieved mobilized the villagers who were willing to donate their own pumpkins and to contribute to the rigorous and time-consuming process of peeling and cooking them, bringing new life and community spirit to the slopes of Serra da Freita, as well as a tasty presence on our tables. It is a recognized artisanal production unit, with its own high-quality ingredients, which have been diversified over the years. In addition to Pumpkin Boroa, we currently also have Chestnut Boroa, Carrot Boroa, Boroas Stones and Traditional Sponge Cake, all of which have won several awards, including the “Great Taste” awards. Boroas & Companhia’s products are associated with the identity of Arouca and visits to this manufacturing facility are part of the tourist offer of the UNESCO World Geopark of Arouca.
