The stories of these communities, welcomed by the mountain in their midst, with bonds strengthened by the tradition of their lives and by the flow of the River Paiva or the watercourses that cut through the hills, united by the simple buildings that are simultaneously beautiful in their simplicity, emerge more than from the flow of water, from the flow of time. Cabreiros has lived both in the shadow of the Monastery of Arouca (despite its withdrawal) and strongly linked to the commendation of Rossas (Order of Malta), not to mention the turmoil that passed through here during World War II in the race for “black gold”. The stories passed, the memories persisted. More or less obvious, more or less disguised by time.
