08 – Stories from a Monastery over 10 Centuries Old

Starting at the Arouca Interactive Tourism Shop, where you can learn more about the heritage of the municipality of Arouca and, in particular, its monastery, we set off to discover the historic center of the town of Arouca. Considered to be one of the most important Portuguese monasteries and a true local ex-libris, the Monastery of Santa Maria de Arouca is home to an extremely valuable legacy, both material and immaterial, associated with the church and the Museum of Sacred Art. The visit also includes a look at other monuments in the historic center (outside area), such as the Chapel of Misericórdia, a building of public interest; and typical 17th century houses (Casa da Ribeira and Casa dos Malafaias).

- Free for accompanying teachers
- For each program, a maximum of 50 students (one coach) and a minimum of 15 are allowed per monitor. For lower or higher numbers of participants, please contact the services;
- The program includes a visit to the Museum of Sacred Art, which is closed on Mondays and public holidays;
- The program depends on the availability of the Arouca Interactive Tourist Office and the Monastery of Arouca/Museum of Sacred Art;
- In the event of rain, snow, thunderstorms, fog or very cold weather, we suggest changing the date of the visit. The group should ensure this when booking transportation;
- Participants should bring comfortable shoes and clothing suitable for the weather forecast.
