Female fetusAthyrium filix-femina

A perennial herbaceous plant with a short, upright, blackish rhizome. The fronds are arranged in tufts and are fragile and deciduous. The limb is pale green, lanceolate and hairless. The 1st order segments are short-petiolate, alternate and lanceolate; the 2nd order segments are penatissect, oblong to oblong-lanceolate, with an acute or rounded apex and slightly toothed. The sori are oblong and the indusium is persistent, comma-shaped or kidney-shaped.
