Reforestation

Reforestation, through the planting of young native trees, is essential for maintaining or improving some of the existing habitats in the Arouca Geopark. Forests are ecosystems that provide numerous services, including carbon sequestration and storage, soil conservation, water quality regulation, biodiversity refuges and recreational and leisure services.

Reforestation actions not only improve environmental quality, but also promote the sustainable development of the region, creating opportunities for educational and tourist activities that enhance the natural and cultural heritage.

Monte da Senhora da Mó is weakened by various threats, such as forest fires and the proliferation of invasive plant species. To mitigate these threats, we are working in partnership with society, the school community and area managers to improve some areas of the hill.
