Arouca Geopark participated in the 16th Regional Environmental Education Meeting in the Azores
From September 29 to October 2, Arouca Geopark took part in the 16th Regional Environmental Education Meeting and the 31st Pedagogical Environmental Education Days, held on Faial Island, within the Azores Geopark, under the theme “Memory of the Earth: A Beacon in Environmental Education.”
The event brought together national and international experts to discuss the role of Earth Sciences and science communication in promoting environmental literacy. AGA – Arouca Geopark Association was represented through participation in a roundtable and the presentation of two scientific posters:
-
Educational Programs of Arouca Geopark – Exploring knowledge where Nature tells stories!
-
Citizen scientists engaged in mycological studies at the Arouca UNESCO Global Geopark
The roundtable discussion, entitled “The potential of geodiversity in environmental education within UNESCO Global Geopark territories”, along with the presented works, reflected AGA’s ongoing commitment to promoting environmental literacy and valuing geological heritage.
Prior to the meeting, and as part of the Geodiversity Festival 2025, the team also participated in the celebration of the 68th anniversary of the Capelinhos Volcano eruption, and hiked the Geosites Route on Faial Island.
This event was promoted by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, Azores UNESCO Global Geopark, Portuguese Association for Environmental Education (ASPEA), and Blue Flag for Environment and Education (ABAAE).
