“On the Way to the Harvest”: tradition, nature, and discovery in Mansores

On September 25th, AGA – Arouca Geopark Association, in partnership with the Municipality of Arouca, organized the activity “On the Way to the Harvest,” an initiative included in the Children’s Area of the Harvest Festival.

In the morning, 4th-year students from Mansores Basic School set out to explore the rural world and winemaking traditions. The walk began at the school and followed the PR11 – Barrosa Mills Trail, covering a distance of about 2 km. Along the way, participants learned, observed the landscape, and enjoyed the fresh air of the region.

Upon arriving at the vineyard, the young participants got hands-on with the grape harvest. With scissors in hand and baskets over their shoulders, they helped pick ripe grape clusters. They then recreated the traditional grape stomping in a wooden vat specially prepared for the occasion, enjoying a true journey back in time that brought many smiles and laughter.

The morning ended with a picnic in the field to recharge before heading back to school.
