Panorama of the

Arouca Weather Radar

To appreciate the village of Castanheira, there’s nothing better than going up to the 10th floor of the Arouca Meteorological Radar, to the “Panorâmica da Costa da Castanheira” geosite. In addition to the village, on clear days you can see the Serra da Freita, the Ria de Aveiro, the Atlantic Ocean or the Estrela, Montemuro and Gerês mountains, among others.

Guided tours of this infrastructure take place by appointment at the Casa das Pedras Parideiras – Interpretation Center and cover the interpretation of the landscape, as well as the technical functioning of this IPMA – Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere building, in the field of meteorological monitoring.
