Located in the historic center of Arouca, on Rua 1º de Maio, in a house about two hundred years old (which was once an animal corral on the first floor and a dwelling on the second floor) you’ll find a restored Crafts and Local Accommodation house. It still has features from ancient times: granite walls, a large granite pillar, chestnut beams, a manger with three sinks and iron rings where the animals were tied up. All the spaces have been restored and decorated with antique pieces of furniture, making them picturesque and welcoming.
This is a tribute to Granny “Virinha” – Elvira da Conceição Valente, who died in 1993 at the age of 90, having dedicated around 75 years of her life to the arts of sewing, lace and embroidery. This house also welcomed ladies and girls who wanted to learn the art of sewing and embroidery. Her daughter, Esmeralda Valente, now 92, continues the arts of sewing, lace and embroidery in the store – “A Avozinha Artesanato” (on the first floor) and the accommodation on the 1st and 2nd floors – “A Avozinha – Arouca (AL)”. A Avozinha – Arouca is the perfect accommodation for those who want to be close to historical sites. Immerse yourself in the charms and beauty of this village and enjoy the surrounding nature.
