Its back and flanks are covered in spines, which give it a yellowish-brown color. The belly, covered in thick, sparse hair, has a grayish-brown hue. The head has dark eyes, small round ears and a pointed snout. The tail is short and the paws, with five toes, have blunt, strong claws.
