A shrub with thin, brown bark with a network of purple markings. The branches are reddish-brown with alternate, petiolate, deciduous leaves. The flowers are arranged in ridges on the new branches or are solitary and have long pedicels. The fruit is a globose, hairless drupe, yellow at first, red when ripe and black at the end.
