Trance mossHypnum cupressiforme

Flat, often long, bright green mats that often turn yellow. The phyllidia resemble small sickles, as they are all curved towards the ground. The sporophytes have a slightly inclined capsule and the operculum is conical. The name Hypnum derives from an ancient supposition that it caused sleep.
