The smooth skin that covers the back has small granules and a very variable color, predominantly brown, orange or even reddish. The belly is usually whitish. The head has large, prominent eyes and a pointed snout. It has a characteristic post-ocular spot that decreases in width towards the back and, underneath it, a narrow whitish band that extends from the bottom of the eye to the commissure of the mouth.

Habitat Mountainous areas, next to clean water streams, with rocky substrate and abundant vegetation on the banks.
