Palmate TritonTriturus helveticus

It has a rounded, slightly flattened head with three longitudinal grooves on the top. The eyes are relatively small and located laterally. It has a typical dark band between the nasal orifice and the eye, which sometimes extends to the neck. The tail is very flat laterally, with a reduced or absent crest. Males, at breeding time, typically develop dark interdigital membranes on the hind legs and a long filament at the end of the tail.
