01 – From Mizarela to Parideiras Stones

In the Serra da Freita, granite and schist rocks shape the landscape, where the natural beauty and rural mountain environment stand out. A visit to the Frecha da Mizarela viewpoint, where you can see the largest waterfall in mainland Portugal, and the Mizarela lithological contact show how these two types of rock behave in terms of weathering and erosion, with the consequent formation of the Caima River waterfall. The field trip also includes a stop and visit to the Castanheira Fold Field and the Casa das Pedras Parideiras – Interpretation Center, where you can better understand the history of planet Earth and, in particular, the profound transformations that took place at the end of the Paleozoic Era.

Notes
- Free for accompanying teachers;
- Travel between the different points of the visit takes place in the group bus;
- Each bus will be accompanied by a guide;
- The meeting point with the guide will be defined according to the schedule;
- The starting point of the visit can be adjusted according to the availability of the facilities;
- For each program, a maximum of 60 students (one coach) and a minimum of 15 are allowed per monitor. For lower or higher numbers of participants, please contact the services;
- The auditorium at Casa das Pedras Parideiras has a seating capacity of 30 people;
- In the event of rain, snow, thunderstorms, fog or very cold weather, we suggest changing the date of the visit. The group must ensure this when booking transportation;
- In the event of snow and/or ice, access to the Serra da Freita may be prohibited;
- Participants should bring comfortable footwear and clothing suitable for the weather forecast for Serra da Freita. On hot days, sunscreen, a hat and water are recommended. On cold days they should bring several layers of clothing and avoid fabric shoes.
