23 – Discovering the Merujal Biodiversity Station with Why Not On Nature

The Merujal Biodiversity Station is a site dedicated to the preservation and study of biodiversity and natural ecosystems, classified as such by the ICNF. Located in the middle of the biodiversity-rich Natura 2000 network, the station covers a large protected area where a variety of species of plants, animals and insects coexist in harmony. Throughout the activity, students have the opportunity to immerse themselves in nature and learn about the importance of conserving biodiversity. We encounter different habitats, allowing us to observe various species of birds, mammals, reptiles and insects. Explain and understand the interactions between living beings and the ecological processes that take place in this same environment. By visiting the Merujal Biodiversity Station, students have the opportunity to connect with nature, appreciate its beauty and understand the importance of preserving it. It’s a place that awakens environmental awareness and offers an enriching experience for anyone who wants to learn about and contribute to the conservation of biodiversity. Of course, we wouldn’t finish this magnificent route without passing through and gaining a geological understanding of two fantastic geosites: the Mizarela lithological contact and the panoramic view of the Frecha da Mizarela, the largest direct waterfall in mainland Portugal.

Notes:
- Minimum of 8 students and maximum of 80 students
- Specific subjects/courses covered by the activity: Environmental Studies
- 4 km walking route perfectly suited to this age group
- In the event of adverse weather conditions, the interpreted visit can be rescheduled for a new date favorable to both parties;
- 25% charge in the event of cancellation by the school;
- Includes:
- Why Not On Nature guide throughout the interpreted visit (1 guide per maximum of 20 students);
- compulsory personal accident insurance;
- compulsory civil liability insurance
- Excludes:
- transportation to and from the points of departure and arrival. If necessary, the company can arrange transportation on request.
