Geopark Digital “Guided tour” of the Monastery of Arouca
“The Monastery of Arouca holds many treasures unknown to the overwhelming majority of people. The most important collection of music manuscripts from the 13th century onwards known outside the Torre do Tombo; an impressive collection of sacred art; an organ, recently restored, which is one of the most beautiful pieces of 18th century Iberian organbuilding. Given by King Sancho I to his daughter Mafalda in the middle of the 13th century, the Monastery of Arouca is the stage for an exciting guided tour by medievalist Maria Helena da Cruz Coelho and a concert explained by Nicolas Roger, its titular organist”. To (re)watch in “Visita Guiada”, a television and radio program about pieces of Portuguese art and culture history that chose the Monastery of Arouca as the “protagonist” of one of its episodes.
