Geopark Digital Landscapes and monuments of Arouca Geopark immortalized in Portuguese cinema

Almost 100 years ago, director Rino Lupo, considered a unique and unusual artist, immortalized Arouca in his film “Mulheres da Beira”. This is an adaptation of the short story “A Frecha da Misarela” from the literary work “Mulheres da Beira” by Abel Botelho. In the plot, the convent of Arouca, the Frecha da Mizarela or the granite landscapes of the Arouca Geopark give realistic force to this dramatic film, set in a rural environment, where the fantasy and loves of Aninhas (Brunilde Júdice) live on. Considered by film critic João Bénard da Costa to be “the first major work of Portuguese cinema”, this is a classic from the early days of Lusitanian cinema, at a time when it was silent.
