“A Terra Treme” raises awareness among students of the Escariz School Group about seismic risk
On November 5, the Arouca Geopark joined the national initiative “A Terra Treme”, promoted by the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection.
The AGA – Arouca Geopark Association collaborated with the Municipal Civil Protection Service and the Arouca Volunteer Firefighters to carry out an awareness activity aimed at 7th-grade students from the Escariz School Group.
Led by AGA geologist Alexandra Paz, the session aimed to raise awareness among young people about seismic risk in Portugal, highlighting the importance of self-protection measures that can save lives.
At 11:05 a.m., the drill took place, during which all participants put into practice the three essential actions — drop, cover, and hold on — following the campaign’s guidelines.
This initiative, framed within the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction, sought to empower the school community to know how to act before, during, and after an earthquake, both in school and at home, promoting a safer and more effective response in real situations.
