From the field to the laboratory: a journey through the world of wild mushrooms in the Arouca Geopark

Wild mushrooms play a fundamental role in maintaining ecosystem balance and grow in a wide variety of habitats. To better understand their diversity and characteristics, the activity “Wild Mushrooms: From the Field to the Laboratory” took place last Saturday, 8 November.

The initiative brought together 25 participants who, in the morning, explored the private forest area of Quinta de Alhavaite, and in the afternoon, analyzed the collected samples in the laboratory, observing their macroscopic and microscopic features using magnifying glasses and microscopes.

Among the wide range of specimens found, around 50 species of mushrooms were identified, highlighting the mycological richness of the Arouca Geopark territory.

This activity was promoted by AGA – Arouca Geopark Association, with the collaboration of Arouca Secondary School and the invaluable support of the owners of Quinta de Alhavaite.
