Native Forest Week raises awareness of the value of native areas

From November 18 to 24, Arouca Geopark celebrated Autochthonous Forest Week with a diverse program that raised awareness among different audiences of the importance of valuing and conserving this ecosystem. Around 250 people, including students, teachers, families and the general public, took part in the activities proposed for the week. The forest went to the schools, the natural elements gave free rein to the imagination in the creation of real works of art, trees were planted, hikes and mycological tours took place, nature was the stage for meditation and relaxation and some of the forest’s aromas were discovered.

Daniela Rocha, executive coordinator of AGA – Arouca Geopark Association, points out that “these initiatives, as well as bringing the public closer to the territorial dynamics fostered by AGA, play a crucial role in raising awareness of the conservation of Arouca Geopark’s natural resources, encouraging the community and visitors to recognize and value the uniqueness of our geopark”.

This week was organized by the AGA, in partnership with the Municipality of Arouca, the Entre Douro e Vouga Forestry Association and the Arouca and Escariz School Groups.
