Percurso Paiva Valley

The Vale do Paiva region has had an interesting occupation and social dynamic throughout the ages. From the Bronze Age to the Contemporary Period, there are many archaeological finds in this region.

From the Bronze Age, traces remain of a settlement that was built on the hill of Senhor dos Aflitos. As far as the Roman period is concerned, two gold explorations stand out: the Roman Fojo of Gralheira d’Água and the Conheiras of Janarde.

At a later stage, the Trancoso Pillory stands out, a symbol of power and autonomy, and in contemporary times the Trilobites Museum has gained importance as an exhibition site for a geological heritage of universal value.
