Serra da Freita is a natural area with its own characteristics, where the geology alternates between schist and granite. Prehistoric communities integrated naturally and acculturated the region in different ways.
The Dólmen da Portela da Anta and Mamoa 2 de Monte Calvo are two examples of Bronze Age monuments that can be seen in Serra da Freita. As far as the Prehistoric period is concerned, the Senhora da Laje Rock Engravings stand out and, nearby, but from the Modern Period, the Senhora da Laje Chapel is an example of this period. In contemporary times, the Casa das Pedras Parideiras, a center for the interpretation of geological and human history, has taken shape.
